Post Meet Driver Review: Evan Masiello

Hello everyone. In the following blog post I, Matt Smith, (a totally real club running member) will be giving my thoughts on Evan Masiello’s performance driving to a meet for the first time by recounting my trip with him to Nirca Regionals.

To start it off I have to say that Evan’s car is beautifully well maintained. Besides very slight scratches given to Evan’s car in Lot 16 by an unknown inadequate parker, his car is truly a work of art and gives all of the other drivers something to strive for. The drive started off a little rough with some rain and annoying traffic but once Evan announced that anyone was free to queue songs on his phone we really got into the best part of the drive. We listened to the entirety of Guts by Olivia Rodrigo which I was very happy about due to the fact that previously Evan was playing some very questionable hip hop “music” that was really just people talking over other songs (no thank you!). After we listened to Guts the Taylor Swift sing along began and I was having a blast. I would have to say that the peak enjoyment for me was when we all sang along to a remixed version of You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift that Evan made. The remix was electric and definitely made me despise Evan’s music taste slightly less.

In terms of his actual driving ability Evan showed a great deal of skill and control while he operated his motor vehicle. Although he wasn’t always the fastest or most aggressive driver he preformed very well and was able to navigate the traffic with expertise. That being said during the way home from the meet Evan did in fact almost rear end someone because we suddenly cam across standstill traffic, but I’ll forgive him for that because he said “My bad guys” after.

Evan made the executive decision that we would stop at Sheetz for dinner on the way to the hotel which would have been great if we didn’t also eat lunch at Sheetz the very next day. The Sheetz that we went to wasn’t that great and included no indoor seating so Evan sacrificed a relaxing meal time by pounding out his food so that we could return to the road and everyone else could eat in the car. Due to the efficiency of our lunch stop we arrived at the infamous Allentown Super 8 with no other club runners in sight. At first we thought that this meant that we had gotten there first and thus that Evan was the best driver out of all those that went to Regionals, but it turns out that another car had actually gotten to the Super 8 first and then left to go eat dinner at Chipotle. I think that this possible second place arrival makes me indecisive on wether or not I should crown Evan as the best driver in the club, so I am curious to hear your thoughts in the comments. I welcome open dialogue but please keep it civil so that we don’t offend anyone when we’re comparing them to Evan.
