A blog post!? That’s right ladies and gents club running is back and it’s time to hit the cross course. So here to bring you your DC invite race preview is the boyz of 2422.
Meet: DC Invitational presented by Georgetown Club Running
Location: Kenilworth Park, Washington District of Columbia
Oh boy UMD Club Running’s official return to the DC Invite is looking pretty exciting. A change in venue from the tragically trail runnery Dupont park to the lighting quick Kenilworth park promises fast times and thrilling racing for this reinvigorated DMV boarder clash. The fierce female Terps will tackle 2 3k loops next to the scenic Anacostia. While the men face 3 riveting cycles around the infamous DCXC fields. Expect rival teams UVA and Georgetown to be confused by the utter speediness of our rambunctious reptiles as we cut our way across our beloved Anacostia Trail.
The gentlemen tortles feature a top notch squad of 24(and Nate) threating to make all the hoos wonder whoooooooo beat them. An almost certain lock on your top spots are Mitch “coolest man to ever live” Welter and Andrew “ohh in Spain it’s pronounced” Lent. Their hair-raising workouts have even naked mole rats quaking in their Petco terrariums. Trailing almost certainly not to far behind will be your #notmypresident Colin Sybing, The Bionic Man™(Jacob Grant), freshman heartthrob Chris McCullough, Matt Stasiucabbage, and Rylan “I have so much influence NIRCA Nats is in Virginia this year” Flint(who just learned how to make eggs Benedict btw). With the top 7 by no means settled we can say with absolute certainty we expect to see one of the 7 Matts complete at least 1 xc race this year. Two such Matt’s reignite their high school rivalries as Matt Laskowski(St. Anselm) and Matt Metz(Dematha) are sure to debate over the merits of Benedictine monks mid race. Fresh off of a season of triathlon training, Eric Baranoski should be a formidable force for the Anacostia river portion of the race. Look for his dangerous 800 meter destroying, Hoka wearing, Eluid Kipchoge loving counterpart Daniel Jordan as this fierce middle distance runner shows us all why we should be doing track work instead of easy jogs. Sophomore Andrew “I own every UMD basketball shirt ever made” Wright, Michael “#1 in the treasures heart #1 on the course” Gonzales, Jefferson “runs almost as fast as he drives” Ruiz, and Delawhere? transfer Ryan Mayhew are sure to put up a strong fight as they cut through throngs of crying Georgetown joggers. David Brown returns from a summer of awesome distance training(and a fall of sprinting?) who along with Elliot Hayes will inevitably destroy the field confusing the freshman even more than this blogpost. The freshman squad appears as strong as ever headed by Vinny “literally Ryun Anderson” Maltagilatti, Josh “thinks Rylan is elite” Rosemore(P.S. thanks Josh -Rylan), GrahamPS Haederle, Alex Freidman, Ari Bailey, and Adam Cullen……………. Rounding out the men’s squad is MT, who apparently thinks the only way to get to the DC Invite is by running there. As well as your fearless almost as ambitious as Dick Cheney VP, Daniel Singer. The men’s race looks frightful but the action will merely be dessert as the fearless frolicking female testudines take to their first 6k of the season just a short hour before the men.
The women’s squad features a terrific 12, promising a swift victory over their much less dedicated counterparts. Seniors Julia Heiges and Shannon MacMaster should lead the field with Shannon expected to aquajog miraculously across the fields(with Nate Lieske by her side no doubt shouting Department of Defense slogans of encouragement)to victory. Julia stepping down from an impressive marathoning campaign looks to lead the young squad of terps with the help of junior “Tailgate Kate” Eckart and sophomore Munificent Maddie Mandich. Junior Emily “form as impressive as a ship’s” Mast and Senior Erin “our favorite Strava personality” Langille look to impress after early season workouts indicate superhuman fitness. Now to be honest these next couple girls we don’t know too well. Is it because we’re basically middle school boys who are afraid to talk to girls? Absolute not!! Well maybe… However, after a few phone calls some milesplit/facebook stalking we’re sure these freshmen will not only show up in form but show up win. These next gen terps Anna Schauermann, Katie Pistner, Dianna Liepinya, Claire Jacobs, and Lauren Frankel are sure to dominate and we look forward to meeting them post-race when we‘re delirious from running and they’ve had huge PR’s of course.
We look forward to racing this weekend and wish everyone luck!!!!
